Detailed information for the notes.ini Keyword:

Short Description: Defines the Name Lookup Cache Version

This value defines the Name Lookup Cache Version.

Since 7.0.3 and 8.x the new Name Lookup Cache Version is now Version 4 (NLCACHE_VERSION=4). This version is a fix to an enhancement to the NAMELookup cache that invalidates individual entries rather than entire groups.

The default setting for the NAMELookup cache in Domino 7.x / 8.0.x is version 2.

The default setting for the NAMELookup cache in Domino 8.5 is version 4.

SPR# JRON6ZXP5J - This fix is an enhancement to the NAMELookup cache to invalidate individual entries rather than entire groups. Enhancement is not enabled by default and will only be enabled if the NAMELookup cache version has been increased to 4 by setting the Notes/Domino ini variable ( NLCACHE_VERSION=4 ). The current NAMELookup cache is version 2, which is the default for Domino 7x.

You can drop a "Show NLCache" to the server console to see which cache version you use:

NLCache version 2
CacheLookups:        1,421
CacheHits:           193
CacheMisses:         323
CacheNoHitHits:      905

CacheResets          0

Maximum Cache Size:  16,777,216

CacheSize:           169,400            240 entries in Data Hash Table
HashSize:            982,916             15 entries in View Hash Table
CacheHitRate:        77      %

Note 2:

In Domino Server Releases 8.5.x or higher, the NLCACHE_VERSION=4 setting has become standard/default and is no longer required and should be removed.

NAMELookup cache enhancement: NLCACHE_VERSION=4 is now default in Domino 8.5.x.

If you have configured a different value you should consider removing the setting.

To revert back to previous behavior you may use NLCACHE_VERSION=2 which is the default on Domino 6x, Domino 7x and Domino 8.0.x.
