Detailed information for the notes.ini Keyword:

RouterUserRuleForwardReversePath

Short Description: Allow an admin to configure how the reverse-path (SMTPOriginator) is specified for messages forwarded by the user mail rule "send copy to" action.

Description:

SPR# YMAA5XJCCK - Provide a Notes.ini RouterUserRuleForwardReversePath=n with multiple settings to allow an admin to configure how the reverse-path (SMTPOriginator) is specified for messages forwarded by the user mail rule "send copy to" action. Default is to Set SMTPOriginator (reverse-path) to null, indicating no delivery status reports (DSNs) should be sent.

0. Set reverse-path to null. The default. This avoids loops, but is rejected by some smtp servers' spam filters.
1. Leave it alone (preserve existing value, if any) - original message originator might get failure reports.

2. Use the current recipients internet address. The person who is forwarding might get failure report. Caution!! This could cause routing loops.
3. Use "nobounce" prepended to current recipients internet address. This is a non deliverable return address.

SPR# SRNS67PUF4 - User could not reply to a message which was auto forwarded to a pager by using the send copy to rule action. By default, messages which are copied (forwarded) via a mail rule are changed minimally to prevent routing loops and prevent failure reports from going to the original author for the copied message. One change is to set a empty SMTPOriginator, which creates a null reverse-path. The paging device/service in this SPR apparently looks at reverse-path as the From address. It is missing, or populated with the text "mailer daemon".

A fix to this problem is to use the Notes.ini variable "RouterUserRuleForwardReversePath=n". This variable was added to allow an Admin to configure how the reverse-path (SMTPOriginator) is specified for messages forwarded by the user mail rule "send copy to" action. One of the non-zero settings should be selected (likely RouterUserRuleForwardReversePath=1) and enabled on all the user's mail servers who have the mail rule defined. The settings for this variable are as follows:

Default is to Set SMTPOriginator (reverse-path) to null, indicating no delivery status reports (DSNs) should be sent.

UI equivalent:
There is no kown UI setting for this notes.ini variable. But you can specify this setting in the notes.ini settings tab of the configuration settings document.
