Detailed information for the notes.ini Keyword:

Short Description: Defines the sleeptime from the HTTP logger thread

The Domino HTTP task uses a logger thread to write information to the domlog.nsf database and the text-based access logs when these are enabled in the Server document.

If the Domino HTTP task is very busy, then the logger thread can build a queue of pending data to write to the domlog or text logs.

In certain situations, this backlog can exhaust HTTP's private handles and cause the Domino server to crash.

The logger thread can signal HTTP worker threads to sleep for 100 ms if the logger thread accumulates a backlog of 8,000 items to write to the domlog or text logs. This sleep is done in an attempt to allow the logger thread to process the data in its queue before the HTTP worker threads can produce more data to be logged.
Starting with Domino 6.5.6, 7.0.2 and 8.0, there are two new parameters that can be used to modify the time that an HTTP worker thread sleeps, as well as the size of the logger thread's queue that causes the HTTP worker threads to sleep.

These notes.ini parameters are as follows:

When the HTTP logger thread has Y items in its queue, each HTTP worker thread will sleep for X ms before that worker thread begins processing a new request.

Additionally, if the logger thread finds it has 2 * Y items in its queue, it will cause the HTTP worker thread to sleep for 2 * X ms.

These parameters should be used with caution and are not typically required on a server. The values for these parameters might have to be tuned because they depend heavily upon the amount of traffic and types of logging enabled on the server.
